Guinea: the ban on the export of raw gold, strategic implications
ESPAdvisory

Guinea now bans the export of raw gold and requires local refining before any export.

Key points

A regional trend, not an isolated case. West Africa is redefining the rules of the game for foreign investors. Senegal, Guinea, and other producing states now require a real contribution to the local value chain.

Clearly identified winners and losers. Industrial players capable of investing in refining, certification, and logistics will be favored.

A high risk, but readable. The contractual and regulatory risk is real. But the trajectory is telegraphed: a well-informed investor can adapt to it and even benefit from it.

Guinea remains strategic, but under new conditions. The country is no less investable: it is more demanding.
