Since August 2025, several attacks have shown the rise of terrorist groups in the Sahel, targeting strategic infrastructure but especially businesses.

Context

  • From August and September: blockade, attack on trucks transporting fuel in Mali
  • October: Attack on roadways, logistical convoys, and border posts between Niger and Mali
  • November: intensification of attacks on fuel convoys affecting the entire economy
  • December 6: Chinese workers were kidnapped and equipment was taken from a mining site in Kalana, near Yanfolila, at the Guinean border
  • January 2: equipment set on fire at the Denso mine in the same area
  • January 3: double attack on the Morila gold mine in the Bougouni region.
  • January 28-29: attack on Niamey airport, potentially harming trade and tourism flows

Challenge

Geopolitical risks have become the greatest threats to the business climate. They not only harm the security of businesses and workers in the Sahel but are also beginning to target strategic infrastructure in urban areas.

Every company engaged in cross-border activities must now rely on a geopolitical monitoring and analysis service that allows it to understand the risks in West Africa, assess their potential negative impact on its operations, and anticipate their damages.
